I’m Back…sort of

Hi, everyone. I’m still here. Or, I should say, I’m back. Though I didn’t go anywhere. Literally. I haven’t ridden any of my motorcycles since September 2023.

There is a motorcycle under there somewhere.

Why?

No reason in particular but a lot of little reasons (some bigger than others).  Bikes have been buried in the garage under piles of Halloween decorations followed by Christmas decorations. I’m finally starting to dig them out just in time for another atmospheric river to dump a bunch of snow on me.

I’ve also not been in the mood to write about motorcycles…or anything. Until now. So here’s what’s been going on since I last made a blog entry.

Right after my last blog post, I made a new friend.

Post-surgery puppy face

Mrs. BR and I were coming home from breakfast on a Friday morning in August. We had taken that day and the following Monday off to work on our deck that needed sanded down and repainted. Those plans changed when we saw a loose dog on the side of the road and dangerously close to getting hit by numerous cars. It took about an hour to grab his collar.

No tags.

A passing woman offered some old Christmas lights as a makeshift leash while I drove off to grab one we use for our cats. When I returned, we got him into the car and took him home. My wife contacted our local humane society person and were warned that a homeless guy is going to claim that it is his dog but it isn't. We took the dog down the hill to an emergency vet to get him scanned for a chip and get his head wound checked out.

No chip.

It is difficult to watch tv when there is a giant furry monster in your direct line of sight…and sitting on your chest.

The vet said the wound wasn't an emergency, though there was a hole in his skull open to one of his sinuses and he may or many not have one of his eyes. She sent us home with antibiotics and said to look for a GP. We (the wife...I refuse to cold call anyone) called a bunch of vets and managed to get an appointment in Big Bear on Tuesday. That vet was very unhappy with the previous vet and we had him scheduled for surgery yesterday. I asked the doc what he thought had happened. Doctors aren’t much for speculation but he said a machete-like instrument to the skull would cause that sort of trauma.

So now we have a dog. His name is Jimothy. He is 4-6 years old He lost one eye completely and major skull damage but he is the happiest dog I have ever met. Most of the time, that is. Sometimes he can get pretty moody, especially if he had a bad dream.

New dinosaur pajamas for Christmas and a cozy seat on the couch.

He recovered from surgery to close up the hole in his head and enucleation of what remained in his eye socket. We’ve had to go back to the vet just about every month for one reason or another. Nothing more expensive than a free dog.

And now, since drama with the homeless guy, we have a lot more guns.

Aside from not riding motorcycles and taking the dog to the vet (and walking him way more than I expected to…really need a yard), I’ve also been getting back into watches. More on that next week.

Sorry for the lack of content and motorcycle content, specifically. I’ve created a second YouTube channel called ‘What That Beard Do’ where I do things that aren’t motorcycle related on camera. Hopefully, I will upload to that one more than the one named after this website. We’ll still keep this one mostly motorcycle-related or I’ll have to change its name and I can’t think of a better logo than the one I already have.

Maybe I can get Jimothy to ride in the sidecar. He already has his own logo.
